Caribbean Stud is a relatively new and exciting casino table game, and although there are a few people that lay claim to inventing this popular casino game, it’s no more than 30 years old. Regardless of who invented it, it’s a great poker based game that has been added to land-based and online casinos alike. Caribbean Stud poker, as the name suggests is very similar to poker, although the players wage against the house instead of the other players. If you enjoy playing poker, but aren’t good at reading players or bluffing, then playing Caribbean Stud online may be the perfect game for you! Since you play against the house, there is no element of bluffing or trying to read the other player.

To start Caribbean Stud Poker you must make an ante wager before the cards are dealt. You will then receive 5 cards face down, while the dealer also receives 5 cards, but one of them is face up. After looking at your cards there are two choices, either fold or raise. If you decide to fold your hand then you lose your original ante bet. If you decide to raise then you put in exactly double the ante.

The dealer will then turn over his four cards to determine whether he has “qualified”, with the lowest qualifying hand being Ace-King high. If the dealer’s hand does not qualify then you win even money on your ante bet and push on your raise. If the dealer does qualify, then it comes down to who has the better hand. If the dealer beats you, you lose both bets. If you have the better hand then your ante is paid at even money, and your raise is paid out based on the pay table. A typical pay table is as follows, but always check the pay table when playing Caribbean stud online.

Hand Pays
Royal Flush 100 to 1
Straight Flush 50 to 1
Four of a Kind 20 to 1
Full House 7 to 1
Flush 5 to 1
Straight 4 to 1
Three of a Kind 3 to 1
Two Pair 2 to 1
All other 1 to 1
