The object of blackjack is to get as close to 21 without going over and still have a higher total than the dealer. Before receiving any cards you must first make a bet, and then you will receive 2 cards face up while the dealer is dealt one card face down and one face up. You then have a choice to stand (to not receive any more cards) or hit (to receive another card). Once you are content with your total, you will receive no more cards. The dealer then takes cards until he either busts (his total is over twenty one) or reaches a total between seventy and twenty one. In the most common games, the dealer will hit on soft 17 (where one card is an ace).
